Frequently Asked Questions

What file types are supported?
PactSync works with all file types that Pact supports: PDFs, Word documents (.doc, .docx), spreadsheets (.xls, .xlsx), presentations (.pptx), images (.jpg, .png), and text files. System files like .DS_Store are automatically ignored.
How often does it sync?
PactSync monitors your folders in real-time and detects new files within seconds. It also runs periodic checks (configurable from 15 seconds to 5 minutes) to catch any changes made on the web. You can also click "Sync Now" at any time.
What happens if I edit a file on both sides?
If the same file is modified on your Mac and in Pact before a sync, the most recently modified version wins. This keeps things simple and predictable.
Where do synced files appear in Pact?
PactSync creates a "Desktop Sync" folder in your Pact account with subfolders matching each local folder name. For example, if you sync ~/Documents/Contracts, your files appear in Pact under Desktop Sync → Contracts.
Does PactSync run in the background?
Yes. PactSync lives in your menu bar and runs quietly in the background. It uses minimal CPU and memory. There's no Dock icon and no extra windows — just the menu bar icon showing your sync status.
Is there a Windows version?
Not yet. PactSync is currently available for Mac only. A Windows version is on our roadmap.
